#12 #29in29
Look who came to visit. We have a lot of deer on the island. For the last few years I haven't really been able to plant a veggie garden because these little devils come and snarf everything in site. One year I planted 5 beautiful tomato plants and the deer came and ate all of the tomato flowers and my plants didn't yield one tomato. We have tried just about everything with netting, etc and to no avail, these deer are pretty persistent and pretty smart.

I know they are a nuisance but they are so darned cute!
Fuzzy - Yup they are so darned cute, but they are voracious eaters. My poor little apple tree was devastated by them. Scary thing here is that we have a big cougar population on the island and they hunt deer. Unfortunately we are seeing more cougars in urban areas and they have resulted in tragic incidents between humans and cougars. I don't mind the deer as long as the cougars don't follow we are good to go. From time to time we see the buck and he really is beautiful, but the fawns are my favorite,
It might be a nuisance for the gardener but it is also a privilege really, you certainly don't get this vista in Europe very often. Hence for me, I am still in awe when I see wildlife that close.
That's awesome! I still remember where I was they shot Bambi's mom!
We have a lot of deer around here too. They used to come into the back yard and munch on the really expensive plants until we put a new fence in. Now they walk behind the fence and just look in.
Our neighbor feeds them though which I am sure they appreciate. They sure are cute to watch.
Mmmmmmmmm, venison!
Dar, deer'n bikes nor so good. Be careful.
Sonja - I do love watching the furry marauders, they are graceful and beautiful, but wish they wouldn't like my veggie patch so much. lol
Adrian - I was looking for Thumper everywhere and couldn't spot him. :P
Trobairitz - You are lucky they just gaze longingly at your garden, these buggers just hop the fence with ease!
Andrew - With wine sauce???? (not meaning to offend anyone who loves them)
David - There was a story on the news a few weeks back where deer attacked a dog and then in the same week a lady was attacked by a rogue deer, she startled it when she went out into her yard and it started kicking her with its sharp hooves. I am always on the watch for them when I am on the bike, I go slowly when leaving my neighborhood.
Dar:
We only have Racoons & Wolves in our area. Both are dangerous if you encounter them. The Racoons go after garbage cans, we leave the cans in our yard until garbage day. They live in the two large parks near us

I think they are beautiful creatures until they dart out in front of the car or bike ... Here the coyotes follow the deer - more deer mean larger packs of coyotes, add in a few sheep and goats and then the coyotes are a nuisance too!
My office used to be at a house out in the country that belongs to my boss. We often had 9-11 deer out in the yard. They would come right up to my window and eat the roses planted there. Fun to watch, not so good for the garden!
Bob - We have raccoons too, they are actually worse than the deer. They have ripped into our garbage several times, even after Motorcycle Man bungeed the lids down. Its amazing what opposable raccoon thumbs can do. Furry little buggers. They are so cute though. I won't let my little dog out if they are near our yard, they would clean her clock.
Vstar Lady - Here I mainly worry about the blue hairs who drive recklessly and walk out in front of you because they think they can hold their hand up and you can magically stop, thank goodness I practice emergency stopping.
Bluekat - The deer here aren't too afraid of us either. They just sit there looking at you, they don't like it when the dog is out in the yard. I have given up buying bedding plants because they eat them all. Now I just buy wild flower seed packets and dump them in the garden, it is a messy fiesta of color. My hubby doesn't like them much because he is the gardener and there is no semblance of order to it. He is a neat tidy row kind of guy. LOL our lawn looks like a golf course.
