Every year towards the end of summer the community is invited to make funky lanterns to celebrate summer and bring community members together. There are artists, musicians, dancers, and funky bands, and of course a Scottish piper.
Whoo Whoo! The wise old owl. There are lanterns in the style of fish, flowers, houses, cakes, boats, everything! No motorcycles though, maybe I will have to try and create one.
The most incredible lantern is the HMCS Oriole. The gentleman who created this artful lantern is one of Esquimalt's finer artists. The picture does not do it justice! It is spectacular.
Just a little snippet of fun and festivities at the Esquimalt Lanternn festival.
Let them eat cake!

The jelly fish lantern is definitely my favourite.
Mine too....and next to that is the boat and then the man in the moon.....:-). Very cool!
The yacht is my favourite. Didn't see any motorcycles...
I think I may need to try and make a motorcycle lantern for next year.
All very cool but like Sonja the jellyfish is my fav.
Awesome lanterns!
Wow! Never seen anything like this! So very cool.
I did love the jellyfish!
I've never seen anything like these lanterns either, what a cool idea! Creative and artistic projects on public display, so nice!
Are they released into the sky at the end? Or in a river? I can just imagine how lovely it would be to see that Jellyfish float into the air...but with some of them, I guess that just would be asking to much of the designer.
So creative and fabulous! What a great festival to bring people together!
