2012 Ride To Beat Breast Cancer

On Saturday, October 6th, 2012, 120 Victoria motorcyclists gathered for The Ride To Beat Breast Cancer. Many riders were riding for family and friends who are breast cancer survivors or women who have died  from breast cancer and women who continue to battle the disease.

$3558.00 was raised through donations to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - BC Yukon, all funds raised on Vancouver Island will stay on the island and be directed towards research and treatment. Kathie from BC Breast Cancer Foundation indicated they have a target date of 2020 where women when given the diagnosis will know that advances have been made and treatment will be readily available and  expect better treatment outcomes.

There is HOPE on the horizon! By working together raising funds to assist in research and treatment we can and will beat breast cancer. Be proactive by doing breast self exam, teach it to your daughters, ask your girlfriends if they routinely do BSE and if they don't, give them information about how important it is to learn and do regularly. Your family doctor or nurse practitioner can explain how to do BSE correctly. Get  regular check-ups and routine screening mammography these are the keys to successful treatment. (To book a mammogram in British Columbia click here)Breast Cancer knows no age or ethnicity boundaries.

The Ride To Beat Breast Cancer will be an annual event and I encourage all riders to get their pink on!

Thank you to the generous businesses who contributed door prizes for fundraising!

A ride for a good cause. I do wonder though at the millions if not billions of dollars raised over the years for cancer research why a cure hasn't been found.

The skeptic/cynic in me thinks they already have one but the drug companies make too much money when there is no cure. Sad I know, but he I said I was a skeptic.

Well done Dar!! Love the scarf.

It's one of those causes that you will do anything to support really but when they make it fun too it's irresistable.

I've seen a run being advertised in another state recently called 'Bra's and Bikes Run' to support breast cancer research ... mix that idea with the pink idea and I think you're onto a real winner!!
