Snow! Mother Nature paid a small visit

Foot prints in the snow.....

It's here, the dreaded snow.  I know it is barely a skiff of snow compared to what other parts of Canada are getting, but I think this is the calm before the proverbial snow storm.  Believe me when I tell you this, this small amount of snow is enough to cause chaos on Victoria roads.  People do not know how to drive in this stuff.  Now I am trying to figure out how I am going to get to work, because Vixen is parked.  It seems Bobskoot picked an excellent time to go to Hawaii!  Weather forecasters are calling for more snow at various points in the week and that does not bode well for Princess Scooterpie - it means BUS.  Please no!!!!  I am coming up to my 1 year moto anniversary, essentially I have been scoot commuting to work for a year.  I only drive my car on weekends.  Now if only Mother Nature would stop with the snow, I'd be a very happy Princess Scooterpie!

Doggis doesn't know what to think about the white stuff....

I agree Princess Scooterpie! I will have to drive tomorrow and West Saanich Rd is treacherous with many accident last night and this morning. Im afraid to drive as well - black ice everywhere! Scary!

Kiwi_Deb you be careful tomorrow! Just don't make any hasty driving decisions out there, go slow and don't jam on the brakes. Last night we heard a car spinout whilst going around a corner close to our house.

Who knows maybe tomorrow will be a snow day!

Traffic moves quite ok on the mainland, the roads have been cleared in the early morning. But like you I would rather commute by scoot! Can't wait for warmer weather. I know it will come with rain, but at least that's what a scooter can handle. Be careful out there.

Sonja - the main road was clear and there was no ice. I have my bus tickets ready for the morning. I think I will be taking my back pack and walk home after work. Its about 1 1/2 hour walk from my work to home. It will be a good work out thats for sure.

I like life in the 'rain bubble' at least you know what you are getting with rain.

Snow is okay to play in on two wheels but not to commute on. There are just too many things that can go wrong on a good day, adding snow to the equation is a disaster waiting to happen. I do hope you don't have to take the bus, but unless your scoot grows a third wheel best take the . . . ugh . . . bus.

Good luck and ride safe.

If we ever get snow in North Texas it is chaos! We don't get enough to get good at driving in it. Plus, it melts so fast and then refreezes making a thin layer of ice.

Sure would like some snow more often.

I have to say I'm much happier to see snow than the ice rain we had three days ago - snow is predictable, ice is just scarey. And, although the snow is beautiful, I'm with you I could live without it.

P.S. Dar - those must be some 'cool' tootsies that left the footprints.
And Motoroz - the folks here that run snowmobiles are happy to see snow they're tired of riding on "snirt" this winter.

Keith - this is a commuting nightmare for me. At this point I am still trying to figure out which bus to take in the morning. It just makes a long day already longer. Ugh!

Motoroz - it's the same thing here in Victoria, people just don't know what to do in it. They don't adjust their speed & have summer tires, all this makes or chaos.

VStar Lady - I sacrificed my piggies for an arty picture, needless to say there was only one picture taken, then I had to go defrost my toes.

We managed to see a few inches of the white stuff yesterday and overnight. This amount of snow is enough to shut everything down around here.

Luckily it is a MLK Day here so the Court is closed, banks and schools and closed and there shouldn't be as many people on the roads.

We woke to 22˚F this morning so I don't think it is going to melt today and more white stuff is forecast. Sigh.

Wouldn't it be nice to be in Hawaii with Bobskoot?

If those weren't such dainty footprints I'd say you got a photo of me dancing barefoot.

Two left feet, you know.

Trobairitz - I think Bob knew this was coming or he has a connection on the weather department, so it all happened while he was away! It's sad that people don't have the skills to drive in the white stuff. I have no problem because I learned to drive in it.

Irondad - too funny :). My hub thought I was nuts.

How did things go? I hope there were some serendipity in your commute that made it more than just bearable.

Circle Blue - it actually went better than I expected, I took a bus that almost landed me at the front door of my work. I sat beside a nice lady & we chatted. So all in all my 'bus' experience was pretty good. I just get a little anxious of the unknown, ironic because I scoot commute & motorcycle. Weather forecasters are calling for more of the white stuff over the next few days & then we enter the rain bubble again, which crazily enough I am comfortable travelling in. Who knew I would like riding in the rain.

Irondad - BTW way I did get the 2 left feet reference - I forgot to put it in my original reply because I was cooking dinner & reading blog comments - almost burned the gravy!

PS Keith - thanks for asking about my commute, it was sweet of you to ask.

I don't know what all of you are talking about. There's NO snow around here, just sunshine and temps in the mid 80's (29c). I really like your footprint photo.

I hope you & Mrs Skoot are basking in the gloriousness of tropical climes, because it is ugly here. Things are supposed to improve by Saturday - YAY motorcycle show! It was freezing when I took the photo, but I was inspired by your sand footprint photo! Have a fancy umbrella drink by the pool and enjoy the sunsets. It is snowing here as I write this. I get to take the car tomorrow, a friend is letting me park at her place.
