I don't like the Malahat. I have taken the Mill Bay ferry but rates are pricey. I have taken that Shawnigan Lake road left turn at that intersection before as I like to take backroads. They should widen that portion of roadway and also put in cement centre barriers, or reduce speeds with rumble strips to slow the traffic down. I don't know what they should do, but they should do something. That is the worst stretch of road on the Island.

I totally agree about them doing something to this badass road. I used to travel over it every day when I lived in Cowichan Bay. I hated it. Something has to be done, so many senseless deaths.

You lived in Cowichan Bay, I love that place. We usually stay at the Wessex Inn. Did you have a waterfront home ? do you still own it cause I would love to have a place there

Bob,

I had more than waterfront! I lived on a 2 storey float home. We towed it to Victoria in '92 lived aboard until my daughter was almost a year then moved off when she was a year onto dry land. I used to love eating at the Rock Cod cafe. Whole different time in my life. I think I lived an adventuresome life, float home, motorcycling.

You should do a post about the float home. That is really cool and is something that very few people would ever experience.

Richard - I will have to dig up some pictures of our little nest on the water. It was amazing. We loved it. The only time we didn't like it was during 70+km/h winds and when we had the blizzard of 1996, we were continuously shovelling so we wouldn't sink. It really was an adventure, I miss it, but am glad I am on land and don't have to worry about the ropes breaking in a storm, we didn't get much sleep on those nights. Sailboat halyards clinking all night and when the wind would push the house away from the dock the ropes eventually snap tight and then yank the house back towards the dock.
